Suzanne Lax-Bojtos is our visiting guest lecturer for a complete week of hands on hieroglyphs. We are delighted to have been able to obtain the services of such a well qualified and eminent lecturer.

Suzanne was born in the Czech Republic but has been living in the UK since the late 70’s where she obtained an MPhil from University College London in Egyptology; her specialist subject was “the Fayum during the Middle Kingdom”.   She has been in adult education for many years and has been teaching Egyptology at Birkbeck College for some 15 years.

The 8 day holiday will take place late July/early August and costs $797 per person (excluding flights, visa and insurance).  The exact date will depend on initial demand

What you’ll learn on the Hieroglyphs Course

The structure of the course is a combination of lectures and sites visits. Suzanne will be assisted by a local guide at the sites in order to benefit the local economy. The lectures will cover the following subjects.

  • Introduction to the study of Middle Egyptian
  • How did the Egyptian write?
  • How to read Cartouche
  • The Offering Formula
  • Osiris god of the dead
  • Stela of Ikhernofret
  • Ankhtifi – nomarch of Moalla

 

If you have a partner who wishes to come but not attend the Egyptology side of things we can cater for that. Whether it’s quad biking, hot air ballooning or just relaxing by the pool, there are plenty of choices. We can also offer alternative classes in Egyptian Arabic or Egyptian cooking during your stay if you would like to learn more about modern Egyptian life. Accommodation and half board is included in one of Flats in Luxor high quality apartments. There is no single supplement for your trip, so don’t worry if you want to travel alone.

  •  Visit: The West Bank – Deir el Medina, Valley of Kings, Colossi of Memnon
  •  Lecture: How did the Egyptian write? How to read Cartouches
  •  Evening Meal

Day 4

  •  Visit :Mortuary temple of Ramses III – Medinet Habu
  •  Visit: Tombs of the Nobles
  •  Lecture: the offering formula part 1
  •  Evening Meal

Day 5

  •  Breakfast
  •  Lecture: the offering formula part 2
  •  Visit :Luxor Museum

Day 6

  •  Breakfast
  •  Visit: Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Valley of Queens and Sety I temple
  •  Lecture: Osiris god of the dead. Stela of Ikhernofret; Ankhtifi – nomarch of Moalla
  •  Party Dinner Night

Day 7

  •  Visit Moalla and Tod
  •  Lecture: Summary of the ancient Egyptian language, what did we achieve and how to continue studying hieroglyphs
